- Drive to the old capital Mtskheta at the intersection of Military and Silk Road. Visit Jvari- (Cross) Monastery (585-605). Here on this hill, St. Nino, who introduced Christianity in Georgia in the fourth century, erected a monumental cross, a triumphal sign of the Christianization of the country. Another incentive is Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11. Jh.) The cathedral of the life-giving pillar-svetitskhoveli was for centuries the coronation and burial site of Georgian monarchs and was regarded as the main church of the Georgian Orthodox Apostle Church. The Samtavro Nunnery, not far from Svetitskoveli, is a small church from the 4th century AD The name Samtavro- "place of the ruler" refers to the royal garden. In the monastery garden are still remains of the former palace, a small chapel - a Christian sacred building, as well as a series of later buildings. Afterwards visit the Shiomghvime Monastery, means Shio’s cave. It was one of the most important monasteries in the country. From the 11th to the 14th century it was a scientific center.
