Drive to the ancient capital Mtskheta at the intersection of military- and Silk Road. Visit the Jvari- (Cross) Monastery (585-605). Here on this hill, Nino, who introduced Christianity in Georgia in the fourth century, erected a monumental cross, a triumphal sign of the Christianization of the country. Next visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century). The cathedral of the life-giving pillar-svetitskhhoveli was for centuries the coronation and burial site of the Georgian monarchs and was regarded as the main church of the Georgian Orthodox Apostle Church. After the tour in the Ananuri fortress (16th-18th century), ride over the ski resort Gudauri to Kazbegi.
